Swimming Pool Covers

Pool covers prevent the bad stuff like leaves, dirt and debris from getting into your pool whilst keeping the good stuff – heat, water and chemicals from getting out. With less time to worry about maintenance, upkeep, keeping the right chemical and heat levels and safety you will have more time to relax and enjoy your pool. Safety is naturally a concern for any pool owner, Coverstar comes into its own as one of the best pool covers on the market. It is more than capable of supporting children, pets and even adults, should they accidentally walk on it. But it also has other huge advantages over competitor’s products.

Mechanical Benefits of motorised pool covers

The Coverstar system is based on strength. For example, the sliders, which are traditionally the weakest part of a cover system, are more than four times as strong as any other slider used in the industry. Coverstar’s exclusive heavy-duty double row sealed stainless steel ball bearing pulleys have almost triple the load bearing capacity of single row pulleys used by other companies. In addition, the exclusive rope has a breaking strength of 4000 psi, twice that of standard Dacron ropes. No sheer pins or bolts are used in the Coverstar drive train, instead the system operates with keyways to provide maximum reliability.

UK Swimming Pools can supply and fix both in-ground and above-ground automatic child proof safety covers that give you the peace of mind when you have small children and pets around.

Semi-Automatic Covers

Semi-automatic covers use a motor-driven reel system. They use electrical power to roll and unroll the cover, but usually require someone to pull on the cover when unrolling, or guide the cover onto the reel when rolling up the cover. Semi-automatic covers can be built into the pool deck surrounding the pool, or can use reels on castors

Manual Swimming Pool Covers

Manual Covers are a the cheapest option for covering a pool and as the names implies are operated by hand, usually rolling the cover around a drum poistioned above ground anchored at the end of the pool or on braked castors for easy storage.

Most outdoor pools are fitted with covers, generally housed on a roller at one end of the pool. They all retain heat and limit evaporation, but there are several types:

  • Bubble covers which also warm the pool.
  • Thermal covers which just insulate.
  • Slatted covers which may also warm the pool and which are stored in a pit.
  • One-piece ‘sealed covers which run on tracks and are designed to keep children and debris out of the pool.

The danger of illicit access and drowning must be taken into account. Flexible covers [bubble, thermal] increase the risk because they may trap the intruder under the water. f there is a risk of illicit access, the cover should be able to bear a persons weight without trapping them.

An effective POOL COVER can normally reduce the need for the ventilation system to operate at full loading out of hours [it may even allow it to be shut off] and therefore substantially reduce energy use in both indoor and outdoor pool and spa areas.

Liquid pool cover manufacturers claim their products, spread a monomolecular layer of wax, delivered via an alcohol carrier, over the surface of the pool water. In theory, this would reduce evaporation in calm waters. This effect is likely to be compromised if bathers are present, ands by surface water removal in deck-level pools. So its performance is likely to depend on the type and use of pool.

Some pool operators have found it satisfactory, some not. Operators should watch out for the possibility of automatic dosing sensors needing extra cleaning if they get coated in wax.

Solar blankets and Debris covers

A solar cover allows a build up of free heat from the sun during the day and it will also act like a blanket to keep heat loss at a minimum overnight. There are many grades of solar cover, and generally the thicker the cover, the greater will be its heating properties and its life span. Solar covers can also save money by helping to prevent pool chemicals from evaporating into the atmosphere.

We can advise you which cover will suit your pool and budget. During the winter months it is a good idea to cover the pool over with a ‘Debris cover. These are made from woven nylon and are strapped down to the surround pavour surface. They will keep the pool clear of any leaves and debris.

UK Swimming Pools can supply all types of covers, solar, debris and automatic safety covers at lower prices than our competitors.

Winter Swimming Pool Debris Cover
