Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Do I need planning permission for a swimming pool?
A: Only if the pool is nearer than 4 metres to your house, is more than 1 metre above ground, you live on the broards, or in a listed building.

Q: Liner or concrete construction?
A: Concrete swimming pools a far more robust and long lasting than liner pools and to be honest not much dearer.

Q:  Painted or fully tiled interior?
A:  A concrete painted pool is nice but a fully mosaic/ tiled pool not only looks better, last longer but is up to 25% more heat retentive, so cheaper bills.

Q: What size and how deep?
A: A good size family pool would be around 8 metres by 4 metres and with a depth ranging from 1 metre to 1.8 metres.

Q: What type of heating should I have?.
A: Fossil fuels are always going to cost so a cheap eco type of heating , solar or heat pump are cheaper to run, but do have installation cost. Uk Swimming Pools can advise.

Q: How long will my pool take to build?
A: Normally around 4 to 5 weeks.

Q:  Can one firm handle everything including water treatment and maintenance?,
A:  Most firms require between 8 and 9 different contractors to construct your pool.

At UK Swimming pools we only use our staff all of whom are members of the Institute of Swimming Pool Engineers [IPSE]
